I really tried reading this story but I found myself rolling my eyes so hard that I swear I saw the back of my head. Eventually I was skim reading but still lost interest in a poorly told story. Not one of Wolf Specter's better pieces for sure. This story should never have been published the writing is soooo bad.
I was gifted this book for an honest review and have to say this was hugh surprise , but I loved it. Wolf Specter did a great job with the characters in this book.
It starts with James, a college student going on a vacation with his wealthy parents to a cabin in Tennessee at the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains nature preserve about a mile from the Appalachian Trail.
James falls in love with Alex who is a wolf shifter and a long time frenemy of James when James is attacked by a pack of wolf shifters Alex comes to his rescue that's when things start getting real between the two add an Omega and a pregnancy and you get a great must read book I would truly recommend it especially if you enjoy romance.
James is saved by Alex who is a wolf shifter. They fall in love and have passionate gay sex. Alex impregnates James. At the end of the week, Alex stays and becomes the leader of the pack after he defeats Vito the evil pack leader, but does not kill him, which they all live to regret his compassion. I can't figure out how that happened , but even though they are the same sex I enjoyed it a lot. Can't wait to read more and would recommend this to anyone who likes a good shifter romance even if it is male on male it was good.
What can I say about this other than it didn't need to written? I have read several of Wolf's books and while some of them are wonderful with fully developed characters, this one made absolutely no sense. I understand in short fiction the goal is to get to the point, but character development is much needed in any story. My suggestion is to put more time and effort into stories instead of churning out subpar stories.
I'm not sure what happened with this book. I've read several of Wolf Specter's stories and would highly recommend most of them--but not this one. It was a chaotic storyline that didn't flow well at all, nor was it written in a believable manner. I struggled very hard to finish this one just to see where it went. There are so many other books by this author that I would recommend first--Dragon Fire, Becoming Omega, almost any of the others. I love this author and will definitely continue to read other works, but this one was just a no...
I must say that the shifters genres are not one that I read very much. I have read a couple before this book.
I must say that this story was intriguing. It starts with James, a college student going on a vacation with his wealthy parents to a cabin in Tennessee at the edge of the Great Smoky Mountains nature preserve about a mile from the Appalachian Trail.
To Jame's dismay his parents' best friends and their son are sharing the cabin for a week. Alex, a very dominant alpha male, bullied James throughout high school. James is very unpleased that Alex is there. James has recently realized for sure that he is gay.
The Appalachian trail is a mile from their cabin. James plans an 8 mile hike to a waterfall. He has it timed so he can get back before dark. Alex insistingly begs James not to go. Alex tells James there are unknown very dangerous perils in that forest.
James goes anyway. He sprains his ankle which slows him greatly and is trying get back in the dark when he is attacked by a wolf pack.
I am not going to tell you the story with its many twists and turns, just some broad strokes. James is saved by Alex who is a wolf shifter. They fall in love and have passionate gay sex. Alex impregnates James. At the end of the week, Alex stays and becomes the leader of the pack after he defeats Vito the evil pack leader, but does not kill him, which they all live to regret his compassion.
Eventually James discovers he is pregnant despite knowing it is impossible. His doctor confirms it and agrees to treat James secretly.
James knows he has to tell Alex that he is the father, but Alex no longer uses a cell phone. James travels back to the mountains and eventually finds the camp with the aid of Tommy, whom he met as the maintenance man for the cabin management. Alex and the pack are away. Tommy protects James and saves him from an attack by Vito. James and Tommy fall in love and have a night of passionate lovemaking.
What will happen when Alex returns to find them having sex in Alex's tent? Will he kill Tommy? Will Alex seek out and kill Vito? Will Vito pull a sneak attack and kill James or Tommy? Will Alex remain leader of the pack or will he return home to live with Alex and their child? Will there be an HEA?
You will have to read the book to find out. There are so many unexpected twists and turns you will discover when you read it, you will find it hard to keep up!
While this is not my genre of choice, I may read some more. I received an ARC copy in exchange for an honest review. I have rated it not on my personal preferences, but on its quality as a great story in this genre. As such, I find it excellent. I actually loved the story. It is well written and keeps you reading to find out what happens next! Well done!
